Cities constitute particularly complex systems with severe challenges concerning mobility and environmental sustainability. In particular, urban traffic is the cause for 40% of CO2 emissions and 70% of emissions of other pollutants arising from road transport which often yield severe allergies.

The sensing architecture of FastPrk includes small low-cost low-energy sensors, installed at parking spots. Each sensor node detects the occupancy of the parking place.
They enable fine-grained monitoring and controlling the availability of urban parking spots. The system is applicable to any type of outdoors parking space. Sensors are connected in a wireless mesh network which collects data from sensors and informs the citizens.
Communication is based on state of the art protocols adapted to the needs of urban scenarios and take full advantage of wireless sensor networking paradigms.
Such features make FastPrk’s sensor networking communication robust and applicable to realistic urban environments.

FastPrk provides a complete ICT platform to improve urban mobility and reduce its impact on the environment, based on real-time high-accuracy information of available parking spaces and traffic in the streets. FastPrk is a novel solution that delivers real-time information of available parking spots to citizens by means of mobile phone app’s and/or panels on the street.
